stapp one wins Audio Mostly Award 2021
stapp one and the University of Applied Science St. Pölten (AUT) have been working on a very special, innovative project over the last few months: The connection of gait and sound. The resulting paper was submitted to the Audio Mostly Congress 2021, was nominated and won the “Best Paper Award” prize 2021 .
At stapp one, we are always in motion when it comes to innovation and new ideas. Our latest project has to do with the human gait pattern and its sonification. The intelligent stapp one sensor soles form the basis for this project and its success once again demonstrates the insoles multi purpose utility. They not only open new doors in the treatment of patients, but are also a valuable tool in research. This is underlined by the prize won at the interdisciplinary conference “Audio Mostly” in Teatro (Italy).
Objective data for practice and research
Inserted into comfortable shoes the intelligent stapp one sensor soles measure the patient’s foot pressure load. The correspondent medical software enables visual Live-Biofeedback for therapists and patients. In this way, the smallest incorrect pressure load can be objectively detected and corrected. The resulting data and reports also serve as an objective comparison of different assessments and the smallest changes or progresses become visible.
Listen to your gait – Audio Mostly 2021
The ambition of our project “Sonigait_II” was to make the human gait audible and to offer especially older patients better and more effective treatment options.
This sonification is comparable to driving a car: When you step on the gas, you can hear the engine revving – it howls and you change to the next gear without having a look at the tachometer. In our project the sonification of gait is also based on this principle. During gait training with stapp one patients hear a continuous pleasant sound, which changes as soon as their pressure load is somehow incorrect. This feedback not only helps patients in practice, but also has great potential for home use.
For example, after surgery, the system warns patients who put too much pressure on the affected leg. Individual patient trainings out of practice can now be discussed and analyzed with the physicians at a later time using the stapp one training reports.
This principle can also be applied preventively. With stapp one, it is possible to observe walking behavior. Irregular and potentially dangerous changes in the gait can be detected at an early stage, which can help reduce the risk of falling.
At Audio Mostly 2021, stapp one was awarded the “Best Paper Award” prize, which shows once again the innovative possibilities and solutions that stapp one offers in the medical field.
